Implants: The most natural solution for a missing tooth

What is an implant, how does the process work and who is it suitable for? We explain the common questions in plain language.

An implant is a permanent solution that mimics a natural tooth, made of a titanium root placed in the jaw to replace a missing tooth, topped with a crown. The neighboring teeth are left untouched; that is why it is more conservative than a bridge. The process begins with digital scanning and planning. After the implant is placed, fusion with the bone (osseointegration) usually takes 2-6 months; afterwards the permanent crown is applied. At Efe Dental we do all planning with the 3Shape digital scanner, achieving millimetric precision without using impression material. When there is insufficient bone, graft or sinus procedures may come into play; this is decided only after examination and imaging.
